In the film “Inside Track”, performance artist Momoyo Torimitsu considered competition as an essential part of the New York experience. Her robotic businessmen transposed psychological competition to a physical contest among American, European and Asian businessmen. The three robots are astonishingly life-like, capturing the demeanor of businessmen determined to win.
Fishco's role in this project was to mechanize the figures, which were life-cast from actual people in fiberglass resin. The steel frame armatures were motorized using automotive washer motors powered by motorcycle batteries. We also coordinated logistics for art shows and served as technical consultant on the film shoots.
Fun facts:
-The robot's names are Mark, Lee and Gunter.
-At Art Basel 2003, Momoyo and Mark made the front page of the Miami Herald. Momoyo was wearing vintage 1960's sunglasses that belonged to Troy's mom.
-While delivering a disassembled Mark to Miami, Troy was stopped for speeding on I-95 near Savannah, Georgia at 4:00AM. A baby-faced rookie trooper with a flashlight asked "Mind if I look in your trunk?"......
